The Icelandic musician SUNNA is topical with the EP “Declaration” releasing on February 15 2019. The album contains 6 songs that are all written by Sunna but she is a singer/songwriter residing in Århus. SUNNA plays dreamy folksy-pop but she plays guitar and sings herself and performs with her live band consisting of Sigurdor Gudmundsson on bass, Lasse Michelsen on guitar, and Lars Pedersen on drum. The music on the album is simple and sincere where the lyrics are the main part but are supported by the tasteful arrangements by the producer Dennis “Ghettoblast” Ahlgren who has produced albums for Tina Dickow among others.

The first single from the upcoming album was released in October, namely the title track “Declaration”. On January 18, the second single from the album is released and that is the song “Hold Me Loose” which is a soft ballad that is about daring to trust yourself and others. Just like the song “Declaration”, it is a light melancholic folksy-pop with fine melodies and a personal lyric.

Sunna was raised in a small harbor city in Northwestern Iceland. She has played music since she was a child and was put to sing backup on her father’s songs. She has performed with many of the biggest musicians on Iceland at various events and was the lead singer in the blues rock band Blind Bargain for a couple years. She has wandered between Iceland and Denmark through the years but has now settled down in Århus for good. It is obvious that Sunna’s songs come from the heart and that the lyrics hold meaning to the singer.

Sunna has spend many of her adult years on convincing herself that the music should only be a hobby because it was a bit “dangerous” to admit to herself and others that the only thing she wanted to do was to play music – because what if she didn’t succeed? In the beginning of 2018, however, she reached that point where she couldn’t ignore the urge to prioritize the music and decided to give it a shot. She quit her management position to have more time and sat down to write songs for an EP. However she was quickly brought back down to Earth when she discovered how expensive it really is to record an album. She thought about it and decided to start a so called “Crowdfunding” where people can invest in the project in different ways; both by pre-ordering the album but also by buying at home concerts, covers, postcards, etc. Sunna also threw a concert at her local community hall on one of the last days of recording. She started recordings in Aabyroad Studios in the fall of 2018 and the album is now ready to be released on February 15.

Sunna would like to invite everyone to come and celebrate the release along with her to a listening evening where she will tell a bit about the songs and how they came to be, serve something bubbly, and listen to the album.
